About Me

Hi! My name is Holly and I am a certified personal trainer and graduate nutrition student here at Colitiscope Nutrition.

I created Colitiscope Nutrition because I know from personal experience the vital connection between GI disorders, nutrition, and fitness. I have always lived an active life through running, working out, and traveling, and I refused to let my disease define me and hold me back.

I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2008, the summer after my freshman year of college. At the time, I felt like my diagnosis was the end of the world as I knew it. I was hospitalized 6 times in the span of 5 years, affectionately referred to as the "frequent flyer" by the nurses on 6North at AnMed Health Center in South Carolina.

Without knowing what caused my flare-ups, I lived in a state of uncertainty and frustration. It was as if I walked through my life on egg shells while working hard to maintain a facade of normalcy.

Despite my frequent flyer status at the local hospital, I continued living my life by volunteering internationally, living abroad, and running various races. In between flare ups I trained for a handful of 5ks, several half marathons, and a marathon.

It wasn't until 2013 that I became desperate (and seemingly crazy to some) enough to drastically change my diet in the hope that I would never have to step foot in a hospital again. Once I made my nutrition and proper fitness a priority, the flare ups become much more infrequent and I was able to reclaim my quality of life.

My story is interwoven with trials and errors in finding what type of diet and training plan works best for me and my health. My hope and desire is to share with you what I have learned along the way.
