The Colitiscope Collective
Bone broth is great for healing the intestinal lining and minimizing the symptoms of inflammatory bowel diseases. The collagen in the one broth helps repair joints and tendons as well. Epic has quickly become my favorite brand simply because it tastes like Thanksgiving in a cup. No really- it does!
I just recently tried this service and it was absolutely incredible. Fresh, local, and organic fruits and veggies showed up at my door, ready to eat. You can pick the amount and the variety that goes in to your box too. I cannot recommend this service enough, especially if you are looking for locally sourced organic foods without spending a lot of time searching. Use code HZLL4972 to receive $15 off your first box.
Mushroom coffee has been a recent adventure of mine and, I have to say, I really like it. It has a mild taste, no stomach aches like coffee gives me, and no crash afterward. Plus, the chaga mushroom provides mental clarity and concentration. I am a huge fan of it, along with the other flavors as well!
Odds and Ends
I debated on putting this on here, but it really is too good not to share! Also, having Ulcerative Colitis has left me with zero shame so there's that too 🙂 Poo-Pourri is AWESOME. It is the best gift that you can give someone who normally wouldn't buy it for themselves. You can laugh at it now- and then thank me later.
I LOVE my Ninja blender set! I use it to blend soup, make homemade granola bars, and lots and lots of smoothies.
Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body. It promotes healthy skin, nails, tendons, and joints, as well as enhance your quality of sleep. Regarding Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease, collagen is high in glycine, an amino acid that reduces inflammation and protects the mucosal barrier in the intestines. A friend introduced me to collagen peptides a few months ago when I was deathly ill with a flare up. Since then, I put it in just about everything- coffee, tea, smoothies, you name it!
Garden of Life Organic Greens and Protein Powder - Raw Protein and Greens with Probiotics/Enzymes, Vegan, Light Sweet,19.3oz (548g) Powder
I love a protein smoothie for breakfast or for a post-workout treat. I especially love this brand because it not only has plant protein, but also contains ample servings of greens and probiotics as well. Get creative with the smoothies you make and add a special punch of protein with this powder!
Honey Badger Performance Energy Pre-Workout (Wild Berry / 30 Servings / Sucralose Free / Naturally Sweetened / CarnoSyn ® Beta-Alanine)
I absolutely love this brand of pre-workout. When I was working at a startup company here in Silicon Valley, I would have to workout at the crack of dawn before work or it just wouldn't happen. To give me a little boost of energy, I found that pre-workout really helped me get in a good, quality workout. While I tried MANY brands and types of pre-workout, Honey Badger is by far my favorite and it tastes delicious too!
I've been using L-glutamine powder now for about a year and am a huge fan. While it is best known as a post-workout supplement, L-glutamine is one of the most important nutrients for healing the intestines. It has the ability to repair Leaky Gut and avoid symptoms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
Nuun is my favorite way to stay hydrated. During a race or when I am sick, regardless of the origin of my dehydration, Nuun is an all natural way to restore the electrolytes in your body. And it tastes pretty good too 🙂
I just recently started taking this and have fallen in love with it. Some days, I feel like I haven't gotten all of the vitamins and minerals I needed, or that I didn't eat as many greens as I should have. I add this to my smoothie or just mix with water and- voila!- a boost of greens for the day.
I can't recommend foam rolling enough! With Ulcerative Colitis, severe scoliosis, AND a love for exercise in all forms, it is no exaggeration to say that my foam roller has changed my life. The term "hurts so good" comes to mind almost every time, but it is worth it. Foam rolling is really simple and the results are comparable to those of a soft tissue massage. It is great pre- and post-workout, as well as laying in front of the TV. I have much more to say about this, but I'll save it for a separate post 🙂
For all you runners out there, I swear by my Brooks Ravennas to get me through a race without pain. I have purchased the last 3 versions of Ravennas and have been satisfied with each one. They have gotten me through a number of 5ks, half marathons, and one marathon. For non-runners, I would still suggest them. My mom is a nurse and LOVES the way they keep her feet feeling fresh on a long shift in the clinic.
